⭐ Just got my First Aid 2021 copy and it’s great, truly the best USMLE Step 1 resource! The only way to use it IMO is along with Picmonic this book is incredibly dense and hard to cram, so I review it page-by-page with Picmonic.
I preordered this edition back in early Dec 2020, so I am happy to get the book to prep for APMLE part 1.I will edit my review once I being to study from this edition!
There are a total of 828 pages in this edition. The updated pages are printed nicely with dark ink, and the rapid-review section has been updated. The 2021 edition has many more images, diagrams, and everything is structured better than 2020.There is a new communication skills section under public health that can help us transition from year 2 to 3 (in addition to board prep). ⭐ Been with the book for just a few hours now, and by just glancing over….there are few major updates from the 2020 edition. Take USMLE World questions seriously, read their explanations carefully, but don't blow through the questions now to read their explanations. The questions you answer are of highest quality in any question bank I've used and there is only one resource higher, which are the NBME exams. Once you have gone through everything and you feel comfortable, start USMLE World. On the other hand, gaining mastery of one subject at a time will make reviewing easier.but I can only post what I did since it worked for me. Between all the other resources it would be smart to keep knowledge of all that you have learned close to you, rather than obliterating one subject at a time. Kaplan can be used or ignored, but if you decide to use both question banks please make sure that you are using one in subject mode and the other in randomized mode. While I used them in a randomized fashion (I was on, I think, my second or third First Aid pass) using them in subjects mode JUST BEFORE EXAMS will be the best, as First Aid contains the bare minimum of what you need to know-the rest will be found in those subject review resources. This will make sure that you know your material for class which is almost assuredly more in-depth than what Step 1 wants you to know.ĭo continue reading First Aid alongside classes, and use USMLE-Rx to hammer in your knowledge of First Aid. Instead, use subject-specific resources like BRS, Pre-Test, Lippincott's Q&A, Robbins Review, etc. I think you have already decided what to do but here is my advice in some bullet points:Ĭourse subject review: do not use USMLE-Rx or Kaplan.
